Cracked Aluminum Rim
«

I just had the opportunity to thoroughly inspect my 07' Brute. While checking the tires / wheels for any flaws from trail riding, I noticed my right rear tire flat. I have the 27" XTR's with about 400 miles on them and have never had a puncture on them (I have blown them off the bead). Anyway, while looking over the tire, I found no holes. I pressured up the tire to a wopping 20 psi and could HEAR the leak, but no bubbles with the soap and water check. After a few minutes on investigation, WHAMMO! I have a crack on the inside of the rim. It is directly under the hub. It looks as if a LARGE rock became wedged inbetween the hub assembly and the inner part of the rim. I "J.B. Welded" in and outside of the rim, and so far, no leaks. Is this gonna hold up for a while or should I spend the $100 to buy a new rim NOW? It's Xmas, the $$$ is alittle tight, I wanna wait till spring. Has anyone ever had to do this to Aluminum rims yet?

I wouldn't take the chance of it cracking more.
Replace it.

I would see about getting it Tig welded up.......should hold fine....(just stay out of the rocks)....
Or if it is just letting some air seep by....put a tube in it.......Just make sure you "clean the area" up so it doesnt scuff through.....
