One important distinction between an ATV and a Motor Vehicle in the governments (both State and Federal) eyes... ATV are not DOT approved and tested for road use and therefore cannot be inspected because the brakes, tires, lighting and most importantly EMISSIONS do not meet the same standards as a Motor Vehicle.

Yeah, I know that part. All I was trying to point out is, it can't be both! If they want to consider it a ATV and not allow it anywhere, then don't consider it a motor vehicle by involving the DMV and forcing them to be registered. What good does it do to register it at that point. (I do register mine) But you get nothing for it.  And If they do (registration//dmv thing) then it should be considered a motor vehicle. I know this fight has been fought many many times and will continue to be. It's just frustrating when you see other states do it so easily and NY bones you every chance it gets. Hell they even give more leeway to out of state people than they do their own tax paying inhabitants.

They also said they would lose highway funding if they rose the speed limit to 65 but they still did that "as a trial" and it stayed that way. They still have yet to lose funding. The problem is they have a lot of old school laws that haven't kept up with the times. They need to either change them or get rid of them. There are so many outdated laws on the books it's not funny. I'm not even talking about the ones to do with traffic, just laws in general. They don't even enforce them they are so stupid. You see them every now and then in the news. Any how I was just ranting. Got to jet out, and go tear up some land. Later.

You think it's bad in NY?
Here in Jersey they just passed legislation that unless you are on your own property or other private property with written permission (you must produce the written permission on demand like your license) or a riding park (the last one of which in Jersey will close in October) When you get stopped on any private or public lands riding illegally your machine gets CONFISCATED ON THE SPOT you cannot go to impound and claim your machine until AFTER you court appearance and you will pay towing and storage fees in addition to the fines the judge deems appropriate.
Most court dates are 30 to 45 days out and at $35-$50 a day it adds up quick. Some people are paying $1500-$2000 in fines and storage... more than some of the machines are worth. One guy brought all three of his machines (his and his two sons) to my buddy to sell because one outing cost him $2500.00 in fines and storage (the judge went easy on him)

You can't get to Brantingham without going on pavement most if not all the way... the main reason we stopped ride to there even when it was legal to run the roads. We went there once by wheeler that was it.

Guys,

I receive a lot of e mails on riding on the hill and you wouldn't believe the amount of folks that want to know when will be be able to ride between Brantingham and the hill. We have a large amount of folks with camps and they like to ride from their and I guess we try to please everyone. When you depart from Snow Ridge you will be going up the south trail which I believe you will find interesting.
I was talking with three ATV riders this afternoon next to Timber View and they still hit snow on some of the roads.

...is the trail across the street from Stewerts in Lyons Falls open to wheelers for this event, the one that runs alone the river then up over the hill bringing you out on the North/South road I believe its called?????

The "trail" in front of the Edge in Lyons Falls has never been legally open, the state owns 50 foot right of way from the center of the road.  The railroad bed from Lyons Falls to Burdicks Crossing has never been legally open to atv's, the gas line has a problem with allowing recreation on their lands.  The Burdicks Crossing road will be open, the Milkhouse Road has been open and the Lee Road will be opened for the day up to the east Road, which is open, to the Houseville Road which is opened for the event.  Can it get any more confusing than this, probably.  Contact me as there is a back way to Brantingham which is 90% dirt and has more scenery.......

I hope there are "legal" ways to get from the towns that are ATV friendly to others that are also, I know where I will and wont be spending money.
This state is getting ridiculous, these greenies have to much money and to much influence !!
Did anyone read about the big land deal in the town of Webb?

maybe thats what needs to happen, pick a town and flood them with atv money while boycotting others?  Maybe this would open some eyes.
