Here is the project I have been working on since last May.  It started as a 1984 atc 70 that I bought from the Swap Sheet for $150 with 3 horribly dry rotted tires, no spark, missing a few parts.  After some sand blasting and painting last summer I had a roller, then it was on to the motor.  It turns out the motor that came with it is junk…. stripped spark plug hole, bad cam chain, bad rings, stripped crankshaft threads, ect.  Luckily I picked up an ’85 over the fall so that motor was donated for this bike.

Currently it runs but needs a few things worked out.  The last order of parts should be in tomorrow so I can finish it up at the beginning of next week.

I am getting $400 for it.  I have to thin down the collection so this is the first to go, next is the parts and maybe the other 70 and Big Red.

There was a guy at the Oswego County Fair ATV drags with one of those today. No where near as nice as yours though. He was doing practice runs against his 4 year old daughter on a chinese 110. It was pretty funny to watch his daughter on the 110. After she passed through the lights at the end of the track she had to grab the brakes with both hands because she couldn't pull them with one. She was a trooper though. She would run that little 110 wide open fron the tree right to the end of the track.

That’s cool; I bought my first one from a guy who used it as a pitbike during the Sunday drag car races in Cicero.

The 70 was delivered to its new owner on Friday.  He bought it for his nephew, although his nephew won't be born for a few more months.

Kinda a shot in the dark here but I'm new to this forum. Hoping to get in touch with Fox on how you go about restoring the trkies. I have a 1982 atc 70 that I am the original owner of and now want to restore for my infant son to ride someday. I got it running for my daughter about 4yrs ago but she wasn't too interested. It's all there, except a rear grab bar, and did run but I broke the old pull rope trying it now. Mostly what I'm wondering is what paint to use on the frame and parts that is close to the original. Doesn't have to be exact but close and it a spray can if possible. Also need a grab bar if anyone has one or a lead on one. Thanks

Hi Dirtfan,

I know it has been a while since your post, I don't stop in here as much as I used to.

There are a few great places to get info on trike, www.3wheelerworld.com and 3wheeler.org I would do a little forum searching as there is a ton of info there.  Another great place for parts if you haven't discovered them yet is www.dratv.com

I didn't go for a OEM perfect restoration so I wasn't too concerned about being off a little on the color.  I used a glass back epoxy for the frame, gray rattle can, and the red is a 2 part automotive paint with a 2 part clear over it.  I can check the paint code for the red if you want, it was a code I found on the 3wheelerworld forum although it turned out to be a little lighter then OEM.

I can't help with parts and I have gotten rid of all my atc70 parts but a pair of footpegs.  These are neat machines which I will probably end up with anotherone sometime, I would love to put a bigger motor in one and customize it.
