I learned about the Camelback after a 6hr Enduro without one....now I don't ride without it!! I also forewarned my buddy to go out and buy one before this weekend.

Do bikes start in the same fashion?

I believe they do. Hopefully highgear will step in here and correct me or add info if I'm wrong.

Each class will start 30 seconds apart depending on how things clear out infront. Dead engine start. 24 waves of bikes. Get the holeshot and don't look back. Look me up when your over here.

I don't mind owning up.

Yep, I had a little over-the-bars incident last night. No damage to me or the quad (at least I don't think there was) and the handlebars moved back into position without too much effort.

You have to admit, that is one mean drop off!

Apparently I need to do a better job cleaning my camelback...lots of black mold in the hose. We'll see how dehydrated I get.

We're headed over now in a blue Dakota club cab with a yellow DRZ!

Two things you can do with a Camelbak...

1/ Empty and rinse it out with a few drops (capfull) of bleach in warm water EVERY time you use it (make sure the bleach gets in the hose) and allow it to sit for a few minutes then rinse with warm water. Hang the blatter to dry with a few balled up paper towels insde to keep it spread out to allow air to circulate... be sure to blow the water out of the hose.

2/ Put the bladder in the freeezer between uses... just drain it first and do the above once a month or every 4-6 uses You cannot allow it to sit at ambient temps (70-90 degrees) longer than a few hours without the danger of making yourself sick if it is not sanitized once it sits.

If you have problems with the thing getting mold in it I would have my water supply checked. I use water out of a Brita pitcher or bottled water and have never had a mold problem.

Well, today was a day of firsts:

- First high speed wipe out...complete with my body flipping/tumbling down the trail thanks to an insanely hard and slick sweeping corner. Lesson learned; if there's a berm, use it!

- First time hitting a tree. An attempt to go around a guy sunk in a deep rut ended up with me drilling a 9-inch tree with the right side of the handlebars.

- First time drilling a tree with my foot. This left a lasting impression on my foot. Nice and swollen with a good size bruise showing up. I was power-sliding around a corner and the rear got a little too far around. I wasn't able to pull it back and before I knew it my foot was rammed between a tree and my bike. The bike and I shot back across the trail and down to the ground again. I felt my foot through my boot and didn't feel anything too bumpy so I went on, but I had to keep my foot in a different position on the peg and I didn't do too much dabbing after that. I'll post pictures eventually.

- First time getting run off the trail by "hot-to-trot" racers. This occurred twice with people clipping my front wheel (once hard). The second time was the "I'm done before big problems" experience. I ended up with the front wheel against a tree, my ass on the side panel, one leg left and one leg right in the best split I've ever done. I couldn't get up without flipping myself over backwards.

After that last shenanigan I ducked out onto the road in an effort to save my body and bike. My preliminary count is: 1 crooked front wheel (forks twisted in the clamps I'm hoping), 1 broken front blinker, 1 bent ignition key, and 1 very sore foot.

All in all, I would do it again tomorrow if my foot and bike could handle it. Man I love this sport and I CAN NOT BELIEVE how amazing these bikes are. We pound the hell out of them and they just keep on trucking....AMAZING!! With that said, I need to either ride more or not at all. My forearms are dead early into every ride.

Highgear, that was a GREAT course with a little bit of everything. Great work and thanks a ton for putting it on!!!

That explains why I didn't see you again.

You looked like you were doing well on that first loop.

It was great to put faces to the names which run the board. Sorry for letting ya'll down...I wish I could have done better but I plan to do this every year I can. It's pretty amazing to have a great race like this 10 miles from home! Hopefully I'll be able to get myself into riding shape next year so I can control the bike a little better...

Phantom, I took your advice and cleaned out my camelback (which has a new hose courtesy of a vendor at Highgear's place) and it's been in the freezer since then.

GWH, I think I was doing decent until the foot/tree incident. Between that and the dead forearms I figured I was just going to get myself into trouble if I kept going.

Highgear, would you like help again taking down the tape and sign posts? My girlfriend and I would like to head over and help out whenever the foot starts feeling better. And again, thanks so much for opening up your farm to this insanity!!!!

We have most of the south side and some of the northside done now. You can come over anytime you want and pull down arrows. I'm sure we missed a few. Still going to Hancock? I'm planning on at least riding sunday.

Highgear, I am doubtful for Hancock. Finances are just too tight right now...even though last year I told myself I'm doing that one ride every year no matter what.  Lame  We have to meet up at some point soon!

Here's a pic of the foot this afternoon. Still swollen and bruising still showing up.

WOW!
Did you have MX boots on? Mine was not quite as bad as that when I hit a stump and it was B&B for more than two weeks.
