According to some (you all know who you are!) that's all my fault!

I'll take partial blame (look at it as a birthday gift :D)

I've been wishing for a meltdown since I pierced my front heat exchanger on the sled and ended my season Valentines weekend. Looking to make the SNIRT but didn't have a whole lot of fun on the bike last year running around on the roads and Lynn will definately not be able to make it on her bike if there is snow.

Phantom,

I am truly jealous.  Friday I cleared a path aorund the house with the tractor and I've been riding the loop since then.  The ground is still frozen with a thin layer of mid and ice on top.  I've got no traction, but at least I'm riding.  The stock jetting was pretty far off, and I've got a little more tinkering left yet.  Despite our warm weather and raiin, there is still plenty of snow left....unless you're a snowmobilier, then it's getting too spotty to ride.  You may jst get your wish for SNIRT.  If the snow is gone on the Hill, I'll be there for the first time.

I'll be down your way this week.  I'll be in Atlantic City Tuesday, then working my way North through Jersey as the week goes on.  Seeing all that bare ground will continue to kill me.

Thanks a lot!   TAKE IT!

Bring the bike! I'm sure you have room in one of those Snap-On trucks or trailers. I'll give you a tour of the Pine Barrens... whoops cancel that... forgot your not tagged.
I could take you out on our club lands as a guest... we are only 30-40 miles from AC and there are thousands of acres with single track cut on them that belong to a sand mining company. If you are here for work you can make a "Sales Call" at Jack Lafferty's shop (he has an auto repair business) and ride from his parking lot.

Um, the vid didn't work for me Huh??

I rode a few miles on Saturday, just short laps.  The top inch of soil is fine, but under that is all frozen.  Bit of a difference between the 200 and 250, even tho I had a flywheel installed on the 200.  The 250 is pretty smooth so far.  Methinks it's good!

Hi Phantom,
Thanks for the generous offer.
I don't drive a truck.  I just do Diagnostics Training, so all my stuff fits in a suitcase.  I may have to take you up on that.  SJ Riding sounds cool, and I love your videos...so it would be a welcome change from the mud I ride in in Central NY every week.

I may tag my KTM in Vermont this year, for 3 reasons.  1) I can get a street plate in Vermont, no problem.  2) None of the Registration/Trail Development fees collected in NY have ever made it to a club.  It is always stolen by the Child Molesters in Albany and added to the General Fund.  If a business or charity ever played switcheroo with money like that, someone would end up in jail.  3) I have heard, but not verified, that when you register an ATV in NY that DMV takes the MSO and gives you a transferrable registration.  Those registrations are not proof of ownership in many States.  Anyone know if there is any truth behind that?

I would imagine that it is true about the transferable reggie as that is what they do with sleds.

On the Vermont tag... I have heard that recently Vermont has been issuing ATV tags to people that try and tag their "off road use only" stamped titles. Seems Vermont has caught up to the times like other states. Here in Jersey there used to me a provision in the Motor Vehicle code that was for 'Off road motorcycle converted for street use" but with the Federal Government cracking down on bikes that do not meet DOT and Federal Emissions standards (Two Strokes) it is getting harder to get these machines "registered". The Federal Government has (from what I hear) told State DMV offices to get these non-compliant bikes off the road or loose Federal Highway funding.

Most of the guys I know in the club who were able (in the past) to get tags for their bikes from other states only use them on club property and during competitive events (enduros) where the clubs have permission from local law enforcement to run on the roads between sections and unless the bikes are speeding or doing something stupid (in either case grounds for disqualification) the cops look the other way. If you get a traffic ticket during an enduro you are automaticly disqualified.

Even our club members who have "iffy" tags do not police the trails in State Forests or Wildlife Management Areas during an event they get us guys with full legal inspected bikes to do these areas.

So now the teasing begins.  I have been wishing for a small dual sport for a while now, I even looked at a few but it seems they are either beat or nearly new, nothing in between.

sigh, but at least I can enjoy the pictures.  Keep them coming!   Praise

I found the same to be true when I was looking for mine... I knew what I wanted (02 and up DRZ400s) and looked for three years before I found one in reasonable condition for a reasonable price. Forget dealers as the usually only have bikes that are almost new (less than 1,000 miles) and want almost new prices for them.
Craigslist is a good source as is the ECEA (East Coast Enduro Association) web site classified. www.ecea.org

That would be correct.  I bought my KTM from Ohio and had a legitimate title, and wanted to keep it titled, but they said no.  Only certain bikes within the DMV'x parameters can get a street title, i.e. KTM 450 EXC's and up.

ps - has anyone else been able to open Phantom's vid?  It's still not working for me.

When I folow the video link it says "Sorry this video is temporarily unavailable".  It worked for me before.  If I clivk on the other videos on that page, they open fine.

DD, Thanks for the reply.  I'd like to keep my MSO if I could.  I'm in Vermont in a couple of weeks.  I'll try registering there, of not, I'll be in South Carolina soon, and you can street title anything there I'm told.
