SHOHOLA TOWNSHIP, PA - A recreational vehicle accident Friday in Shohola leaves a New York woman critically injured.

According to Pennsylvania State Trooper Evan Lonergan, the crash occurred shortly after 1:00 P.M. on Friday on Parkers Glen Road in Shohola Township.

According to Lonergan, 44-year-old Kathi Matthews of Newburgh, New York, was operating a 2005, Artic Cat All-Terrain-Vehicle (ATV) when, for unknown reasons, she lost control. The ATV propelled Matthews down a “steep, rocky embankment” and into a creek. At some point during the fall, Matthews struck a rock with her head and sustained severe injury. She was not wearing a helmet.

Lonergan said that a passing motorist happened to look down the steep grade and seen the woman “sitting in the creek.” An undetermined amount of time passed between the time of the accident and her discovery but he woman was found to be completely incoherent at the time.

Matthews was transported by helicopter to Scranton’s Community Medical Center’s trauma unit wre she is listed in stable but critical condition.

That is really to bad.  Again and again we see these reports of severe injuries and no helmet, no safety gear.  I am going to go out on a limb here and bet she would have worn a helmet if she could rewind back to before that accident.  (shakes head)

Vinson65, I agree, but it IS frustrating to hear of people getting seriously, maybe permanently hurt or killed when even a $50.00 investment could have prevented it.

We can sit back and say this and feel this way but the reality is that accidents like this make us ALL look bad. I've ridden motorcycles and three wheelers for years, trust me, anything that happens in "our community" affects the way others see "us". This always comes back to haunt those that do (riders) when those that don't (lawmakers) make the rules based on what they remember. And that is normally the bad things like this.

It's up to us to make sure that our friends and family don't end up like this, adult, child or adult that acts like a child.

Ok, I'm off my soap box now.
