Yep, added a new mod on the V-Strom. Go figure, right? This one will help with the load distribution, I hope. I tend to ride this bike with lots of "stuff" packed in all the luggage. Sometimes, I take the wife along and pack even more stuff! You would be amazed at what I can fit in those cases.

Anyway, this causes the bike to sag a bit more than it is supposed to. There is a rear shock rebuild in the future that will do a lot to help this but for now I've made a small change that I think will help a LOT.

What did I do? Well it was a really simple thing. I changed the length of the two arms in the suspension linkage that connect the swing-arm to the cam that the lower end of the shock connects to. I put shorter links on, thereby raising the rear end of the bike 1". This translates to an increase in ground clearance and the corresponding seat height. Since I have a long inseam anyway, this increase does not bother me a bit when the bike is not loaded and is therefore much more noticeable.

I'll be loading the 'Strom up and taking her for a test ride here very soon. When I do I'll stop back and let you know how everything works out.

You're killin' me. I didn't take any before the change, at least not specifically.

I'll see what I can do.

This isn't exactly what you were hoping for, I'm sure, but...

The red arrows point to the pieces I changed. The green arrow points to the mount they connect to on the swingarm.

Lowering Links... except in reverse.

Hope you bought a good brand... most of the ones off e-bay fail withing a couple hundred miles.

Exactly.

Not eBay. Burkhart Cycles. Very careful to clean and inspect while in process and more careful with correct torque spec when re-installing.

You can bet your a$$ that I'll be checking these on a regular basis.

First ride today was interesting. I can definitely tell the difference when I'm sitting still.

My buddy has 4-5 sets of cheapos that people either got from E-bay or other dealers that just don't care hanging on a hook behind his counter. When some one walks in with a set he wants installed he shows the broken ones to them and tells them that he will install the junk if they want but he will not be guarantee anything and if they break leaving them on the side of the road or in the hospital it's on them... They usually buy the better ones but some people just don't care.
