I have an opportunity to get a smoking deal on a prowler side by side utility vehicle and it does weigh over 1,000 lbs.
What is the deal with riding them on trails, I have seen them on some trail systems and did not know if they were legal .
Some one said that you could register them out of state so you could ride them in NY.
What is the deal ?

NY doesn't have a side by side law so they don't honor any side by sides registered in another state.

That is consistent with everything I have seen. Currently, the only NYS legal SxS is the 2 place Polaris RZR.

So basically all of the side by sides that I have seen on the trails are being driven without being registered, except for the 1 Polaris model.
So I guess that this may not be a good investment if you cant drive it any were legally.

You will see some Side by Sides with plates on them as if you go into the right DMV office and they aren't up to date on the weight ;limit you just vmighjt walk ouit with plates. Does that make them legal who really knows.

Yup. That's why I bought a 2-place RZR.

There has been/is a movement to increase the weight limit in NY to accomodate heavier SxS machines. It has fizzled several times...but is still an active movement. Time will tell.

We are still working the issue of the weight limit. The bills will most likely be re introduced in January and our on line petition will keep going. I be;lieve it's in march they have a day clubs can set up in Albany and we plan to be their or we will hand carry the petition to Albany.
