I CAN-AM CAN YOU

« on: May 15, 2011, 05:58:35 PM »

what do people run, motocross or supper moto. What are some of the pros and cons to using say Dunlop 606 dual sport, as to say Kenda K761 dual sport ?
So far  I have yet to get my bike on dirt but the thought is there. The bike is a XT250 and so far my riding is allmost all rd but feel that dirt or gravel hardpack could be in the mix for some rides.
Phantom how much road noise and vibration is their from Kenda K760 Trakmaster II ?

It is a full knobby so it makes quite a bit of noise and vibration. The K270 DS tires would be good for you as long as you don't want to play in the mud.

The first time you took us across the back way from the Railbed to the French road I had the 270s on and had no problem other than the time I got one wheel in one rut and the other in another rut and couldn't power it out because of the mud/grass.

i have enduro/trail bikes and always had metzeler knobbies on my KTM. not that they were the best though. the honda came with a dunlop 752 front and 756 rear, the front was ok but the rear was not great and wore out quick. once the sharpness of the knobs was gone it sucked on anything. then i tried an MX51 rear and it was AWESOME. best rear tire i have used to date. and it wears extremely well.  right now i have intermediate vee rubbers on there, and the front is pretty good on anything, havent tried the rear yet though. i also hear IRC ve-33 is a really good rear for enduro stuff, i have 2 in my garage that i also have not tried yet

I run strictly off road tires, and stick to intermediate terrain ones.  Just picked up a set of Kenda Millvilles.  Since everyone likes something different, you might have to experiment a little biut before you settle on something you like.  Fortunately motocross tires don't last long and you get to try lots of them!

If you guys were on ""4"" tires they would last longer.

The money we save on fuel we can afford a few sets of tires...

I have a set of 606's on my DR650. They are ok... the rear seems to be wearing fast... but that might be a throttle-related problem :-)

i took off my training wheels when i was 5!
just joking of course. bought some tires for the wifes 4 wheeler that i got a good deal on. a nice set of vee rubber gncc tires. the stock tires on her 250EX sucked terribly. these should make it much more stable for her and much better traction to boot. tires everywhere in my garage lately!

I thank you all for your comments, I'm leaning more towards enduro because this summer will be alot more rd (to and from work) then trail. For what little I use the quads they will get me on the trail,in the mud when I feel the need to get dirty.

I finally got to see a great use for one of those Enduro tires and that was yesterday during our ATV ride a guy was using a Enduro tire as a cushion between the front of his ATV and truck bed. LMAO!

Is it true that you only ride a quad because you can't remember to put your feet down when you stop?   :D

Well after my first ride in wet muddy roads on tug hill riding down the north rd (truck trail or town rd ?)  where a ferind has a camp and can't ride his ATV. The ride was a little slick with a worn out rear tire. So I have bought a Bridgestone TW302 trail wing dual sport rear tire.Going to give it a try for this year, it was a good feeling knowing that I didn't have to worrier about being on a road on tug hill that wasn't open for ridding, just to visit a Friend. Oh and the best part was when I was done getting muddy. Didn't have to go load it on a truck to get to the car wash, I simply just hit the highway and rode the bike their.

If that Enduro tire was on the Enduro he wouldn't need the truck to get home.

easy easy! I would like a dirt bike but I believe my other half would hang me if one more toy came home.

I did put 25,000 miles on my V-Star before I sold it.

If you haven't mounted it yet TAKE IT BACK! Trail Wings are nicknamed "Death Wings" because they suck so bad on dirt... especially dirt roads. The first bike I bought for Lynn had them on it and I wouldn't even let her ride the bike until I replaced them.
