I just saw an advertisement for the annual Hancock ride in the convience store this morning. I think this is the 3rd or 4th yr; we went last year and it was a blast eventhough it was pouring rain. It's a 40+ mile ride on one-way trail; not guided (except through town) so you can go as fast or slow as you want. The terrain is mostly up and down mountains on 50" technical trails. It's definitely not creek bed rough but it isn't a dirt road either. I'd say on a scale from 1-10, it's a 5 or a 6 but I rode it on my daughter's Beartracker so it might not be as tough for bigger quads. Ride starts at 9am at the Fireman's park. Must be reg'ed, insured, and wear a helmet (if these are sticking points for you, please stay home! your not the type of rider the community is hoping to attract). Entry fee is $45. The proceeds benefit local charities and land owners graciously donate use of their trails. This is basically the same course that the motorcycles use for the Quarry Run. I can post names and phone#'s of local hotels if anyone is interested. Camping is allowed at the park but their are no facilities. I live in this community but have nothing to do with the ride other than enjoying the crap out of it. I'll do my best to get the answers to any questions. I've ridden Tug Hill, Majestic, Lost trails, and even the SNIRT ride. This ride is the best of them all in my opinion. Highly recommended.
Oops, forgot the date. August 14th!!!!

Is this ride limited to a certain number of riders?
Is this a Poker Run?

The ride is not a poker run as far as I know and it hasn't been in past years. More of just a fun ride I guess.
Their is no limit on the number of riders and their is plenty of parking
I'll have to check on the bikes question to be sure but I THINK they are allowed.....

I just heard for the guy in charge of this ride and he said motorcycles are NOT allowed because the bike event is the weekend before. Sorry for the bogus info...
Other info I recieved: Riders must be 16yr old or older but passengers can be any age as long as the quad is either made for 2 passengers or you have an aftermarket 2-up setup
LUNCH IS INCLUDED AFTER THE RIDE!!!!!!!!

If anyone is coming and will be in town saturday afternoon, thinking of getting a little pre-ride ride in. Nothing major; dirt road and easy trail stuff.Don't wanna kill any machines or riders before sunday!! Meeting place is only 10 miles from Hancock. Let me know if interested

Ok, let me try this a different way. If you did not go, why not? Weather, cost, distance, not enough info? Just looking for some feedback b/c the number of riders was down from last yr. I'm afraid if their isen't more support, this ride may be lost. The feedback from the attending riders I talked to was all 100% positive but I'm looking for the opinions of those who decided against going. Thanks

For me it comes down to the fact that i want to go to my camp and ride, and two of my good friends ha e places that we ride and stay. So we usually don't travel to.ride bc.we have trouble finding tme to go to our camps.

Allow me to speculate on this... #1 The economy #2 As JSahara said a lot of people with wheelers have camps, vacation property, etc. that they would much rather go to. #3 People are complaining about a $40.00 A YEAR fee to ride ATV trails in Lewis County what makes you think they are going to pay for a ONE or TWO DAY ride plus either camp or pay for hotel rooms. I don't care how many perks you throw in with the ride (meals, T-shirts, Etc.) they just either don't have the money or are too cheap to spend it. I didn't read or look at the Flyer for this ride was there free camping? Most motorcycle only events offer free camping for the event.

Thanks for the input guys. Please, anyone else's opinions are welcome. While their was disappointment on the turn out, their is a desire to see what can be done/changed to get more interest. Do most of the posters on this board frequent, have camps or live near Tug Hill? If so, I'm probably aiming at the wrong demographic but I did talk to 3 guys on the ride who have a place "up north" and they seemed to have a good time. Their is talk about moving the ride to the early fall, on a saturday, and a later start time. Would that help at all?

A Saturday in the fall could be beneficial to you especially if it were after the start of big gamers season in the northern zone as the Lewis county permit trails close then.
