Dunno yet.  We're doing a Welding/Cutting Clinic somewhere.

Joe- I have no camp. I live on East Rd in Turin.

Phantom_Yeah I'm one of those broke lewis county guys that works my ass off to make enough $$ to pay for a house that isn't worth half of what I paid for it in almost any other area, but becuase of the tourism and $200,000+ camps owned around here it has pushed the housing market out of reach for people that work and live here. I figure between all the income, property, school and sales tax I pay to lewis county I shouldn't need to pay a permit fee on top of that to ride on less trails than I have my whole life. Guess growing up here and eating, breathing, sleeping for the recreation that this area has it just makes it hard to leave, but Colorado and Montana are looking better every day.

That's going to suck if you can't ride legally from home.  That happened where I live now.  I can no longer legally ride a sled from my house to the trail.  I have to trailer about 1 mile down the road.  I hate it.

I've only ridden ATVs (A dirt bike) on a trail system for a few years now, so I don't pretend to know what it was like on the Hill in the past.  For the last 15 years or so I only rode on private property.  Are you saying that people were able to legally ride the same trails until Lewis County started their permit system?

I've always been able to ride alot of trails. There was never reaslly a question on legal or not. Never got introuble for riding on them, they were just trails that were always there. I was even pulled over once by Boonville PD while living in Boonville back in High School around 1994 or 95 on a ride to get to a baseball game on a 350x ATC. I was rode down moose river road into town and down ST RT 12 past Madden Concrete (where Subway now is), where the cop pulls me over and tells me tomorrow on my way to the game I better be wearing more than a baseball hat for a helmet. Never asked for reggy or insurance which I had neither being 15yrs old, just wear a helmet and have a nice day was the attitude the PD used to have around here. Now the area gets more traffic, and the county tries to cash in and extend trails. Krug got involved, and I get to stay home.

Do you know of any landowners along the east road that would open some of their land for a ATV trail which could extend trails down towards your area?

How nice you and the County find ways to shut things down, and ticket 4 wheelers for just about any thing, Then offer to build a trail on our personal property and charge us to ride on our own property. How about the landowner build the trail on their own land and if you lower their taxes or pay a fee the county could use it. Just like opening road to road to road to get to Braningham ,putting stones in the ditch here and their on a legal rite away of the roads calling it a trail. To in force a fee (Permit) or penalty(fine)for travailing on a Town or County mantanine road. That is illegal to ride on with a 4 wheeler, but if you pay (buy) a permit from the county you buy a pass to ride closed roads.

I don't believe that's the case anywhere in NY.  If a road is open to ATV traffic, then anyone can be on it, permit or not.

Joe you are 100% correct no one has been issued a ticket fro riding a public road without a permit. The ones that I have had contact with received a ticket for riding on a closed road.

I personally know of 5 people (5,4 wheelers) that where stopped In the road On the corner of East Rd and Lee Rd,(closed corner for maybe 30 yards) three had trail permits two did not. The three that had permits On the closed road were let go, the two without permits on a closed road got tickets. Now the ditch on said corner is filled with stone witch is about 30 yards long and still a legal road right of way.So if they all got to the corner on legal road, and they were all illegal on closed road why did they all not get a ticket.

Look at Benedict's corner ditch trail #11 on the ATV map it sure looks like East Rd to Lee Rd to Milkhouse Rd. Shill I look up the State law about no road can be opened to connect road to road to road.

And what happened to the trail in Barnes Corners ?

Just curious, who gave out tickets, State,County or DEC as everyone has a ticket book for us; being we are a motor vehicle when it is in their favor....and NOT when it comes to riding ; state truck trails etc....

Tug Hill Adirondack ATV Association

Town of Turin meeting on the closing of their town roads. A motion was made not to close the roads at this time as their were some unanswered questions and they plan on working with the Lewis County Trail Coordinator on the best action to take on what roads that are not neede or justified. A special thanks to the Town of Turin to standing up and not folding to Mr. Krug.
