I just picked up a clean 03 KLX 400sr, figured I could use it a lot more than my old 400ex. Looking forward to doing some riding this summer!

LOL I just got sick of having to trailer my quad everywhere. I can ride the dual sport from my house to lots of different places including state land which is legal for dual sports (as long as you stay on the dirt roads). My father bought a DR 650 so I've already got a riding partner.  :D

I've been thinking about adding a dual sport to the stable when I sell my other street bike. Not sure if I want a V-Force or a street legal dirt bike. The DR400 or a KTM would be sweet!

I understand what your saying and it makes perfect sense.
A good friend of mine has a DRZ400 and a KTM he managed to get road legal (2 stroker).
I need to ride his DRZ and see if I can handle the bike and if the bike can handle my wieght....

NICE BIKE !!! when we go riding you are more than welcome to come with your new green Suzuki.
I have had all sorts of different types of bikes and the problem with getting a dual sport ride together is that most dual sport riders are set up for about 5 to 10% dirt and 90 to 95% road. I see by the photo that you have some offroad tires and accessories that make the drz 400s allot more user friendly in the dirt. I will post when we are going to ride when it warm up. Did you get the kaw from a dealer or an individual. Rapidrobert  :D

pj, if you are serious about picking up a dual sport, you should look into an older KLR-650. they are plenty big and powerful enough to handle us plus size dudes. or find a nice xr650.
as far as the other debate, i would get a supermoto, but that really kinda defeats the purpose of having a dirt bike to begin with. i want to add a dual-sport to my bike list, just so that i can have a little more of a bike that i can punish with crappy weather and not worry about it looking like hell, as opposed to my mean streak. and, when my main little co-pilot can finally touch the footpegs of his pw-50 and momma bear will let him ride the blasted machine, it will give us something we can do together... and then the only problem is finding another one when his little brother gets big enough to ride. TAKE IT!

but nice find there dyno! didja pick it up at work?  LOL

Sounds good! I have my bike set up to be mostly dirt, I just wanted something that I could ride to the local trails. I work at a dealership (K&H Motor Sports) and picked the bike up this past fall after I sold my 400ex. It came in on trade and was in super nice shape, got it for a great price too! :D The bike has a rev-lok auto clutch in it too, its a little different but I'm sure it will work well in the tight woods.

My bud has the Rekluse clutch in his KTM, he does hare scrambles, he raves about the clutch, I have yet to ride a bike with it, it sounds like a great idea.

Sure is. I actually did my internship there to finish up my degree in Recreation and Leisure Services with a concentration in managment from Cortland State. Once I finished my school requirements they brought me on as a full time employee, its a lot of fun working there!  :D
