Snowmobiler, 40, dies in Redfield crash

Sunday, January 21, 2007

By Douglass Dowty
Staff writer

A Constantia father of three young children was killed after his snowmobile crashed into a house early Saturday in the hamlet of Redfield, family and authorities said.

Kevin R. Garlic, 40, was riding his 2003 Arctic Cat snowmobile for the first time this winter when he lost control at a fast speed and crashed into a house at county routes 17 and 47, Oswego County sheriff's deputies said.

Garlic was pronounced dead at the scene of the 12:34 a.m. crash, deputies said.

The crash is still under investigation.

His wife of 14 years, Floria, said he leaves behind three children: two daughters, Tiffani, 7, and Rianna, 3, and one son, Nico, who is 1 month old.

Floria Garlic remembers celebrating Nico's birth. "We were excited," she said.

"We had two daughters. This was a complete family," she said.

Kevin Garlic was a master plumber, his wife said, who owned Imperial Plumbing on U.S. Route 11 in Central Square.

When he wasn't working with customers, Garlic was at home with family or attending sports events with his brother, his wife said.

He was an avid New York Yankees and Syracuse University Orange fan, she said. He also volunteered at St. Michael's Catholic Church.

Kevin Garlic was an outdoorsman. "He was excited about the snow," his wife said. "He loved watching the moon shining through the trees while riding down the trails."

A year ago, he moved his family from Central Square to a new house in Constantia.

"Most of all, he loved to be home with his family," Floria Garlic said.

I know exactly where this happened, the house is real close to the road, if he was going more than 45 and trying to make that turn he would of lost it.

Here is a map of the town, it happened right at the intersection of 17 and 47, where it says Redfield.
