The one thing all air cooled quads should have is air scoops.  They are a cheap, reliable and simple modification.  So I did some research and decided on OMF air scoops.  Although a little on the pricey side, my research showed they are the most durable, best performing, best looking, and easiest to install air scoops on the market.  I contacted James Lucky ATV products about getting a pair and they were sent right out.  Although coming three thousands miles away in California all the way to New York, the delivery was quite prompt.

Now you might say “what does an air scoop exactly do?”  A problem air cooled quads face, especially quads with aftermarket bumpers, is that the frame, front fenders, and bumpers block and deflect a lot of the potential air that is needed to cool the engine and bring air to the oil cooler.  Air scoops fix that problem by bringing in air to cool everything down.  OMF air scoops are specially designed to pick up more air and to bring that air to not just the oil cooler but most importantly the engine the more air that passes over the fins the more, heat the fins can dissipate from the cylinder. This in turn gives the engine longer life and better running performance.

I came home from a hard day of work and found the box sitting right on my door step so I ripped right into it and found my air scoops beautifully wrapped with plenty of packing material for the long trip it took from California.  OMF themselves provided a very nice setup.  They had a backing board for the air scoops with the directions, a couple of stickers, screws, and such in a nice little plastic bag in the middle of both the air scoops and everything was beautifully put in place with plenty of plastic wrapping for the jolting and moving it might encounter during its trip.

The extremely nice thing about the OMF air scoops is that you do not need to do any drilling because it uses holes already in your frame.  You just need to undo the top bolt already there and replace it with the bolt, lock washer, flat washer, and spacer for the other side which are all provided by OMF.  As for the bottom hole, you do not need to do any un-screwing.  You just line the air scoop hole up to the hole already on the frame and take the bolt, flat washer, lock washer, and spacers all provided by OMF and screw it all together.  This makes installation very easy.  It took me a total of ten minutes for both air scoops including the small problem I ran into (see next paragraph).

I put the left air scoop on smoothly without any problems and then I got to the right side when I realized that my Elka rear shock rezzie got in the way of screwing in the bottom bolt.  I just undid the brackets holding the rezzie in place and moved it up a couple of inches and I got the right side mounted perfectly as well.

In conclusion, OMF air scoops are a little on the pricey side but they are well worth the extra money spent.  The air scoops look great and go extremely well with my quad and they are also specifically engineered better than any other air scoop on the market to bring the most air possible to my engine and oil cooler which in turn brings my quad longer engine life and keeps my quad cool in hand giving me better running performance.

I’d like to thank James Lucky ATV products for providing us with these OMF air scoops for our review.  If you’d like to pick up some OMF air scoops or get a great deal on any ATV product on the market then check out www.jlatvproducts.com.
