Ok....
Stupid question....
I am looking at boots real closely right now...
What is the difference between Motocross boots and the ATV versions?

The sole.

ATV boots have a "lug" or combat boot sole.

Motocross boots have a much smoother sole and normally a shorter heal.

Ok.
Thank you.
So I could get away with motocross boots if they are a good deal then???
Or is it that much better to go with ATV soles?

Another difference (In some boots) is flexibility. ATV and most lower end MX boots are a bit more flexible in the ankle area since ATVs don't expose your ankles to much twisting... thats OK.
High end ($300.00 + up) dedicated MX boots have a hinge at the ankle like ski boots that keep eveything in line to prevent a twisted or broken ankle.
I have the low end Alpinestars because (a) I don't ride like a maniac (b) I find MX boots too restricting for the kind of riding I do and (C) I'm not spending $400.00 on a pair of boots! Thats funny Right?
The boots have plenty of support for me and for $175.00 they saved me more than that in a trip to the hospital and time off work the first time I used them. Hit a stump with my foot and it was Black and Blue for two weeks but if I hadn't had the boots I'mn sure I would have broken the foot or ankle.

All good information that I mistakenly left out. Very true stuff there. High end boots are designed to protect more and are therefore more restrictive. Sometimes they do that AND maintain a fairly comfortable fit however so the price can be worth it if you find the right boot.  Praise

also don't forget to check the clearance//closeout of denniskirk.com they may have a high end boot for less than $100 if that is what you are looking for.
Or even a low end boot for 50-60bucks. I bought my wifes boots there with the atv sole for very very cheap. I don't remember now but I think it was 45-50bucks. Thing is with the clearance you only have the choice of size that they have in stock so good luck.
I have mx boots myself, I don't think it makes that much of a difference. The only time I've ended up on my but is once in that whicked slippery mud hole trying to help kevin out, and once near binghamton when a yfz was trying to tag along on a very early spring ride. I was trying to help pull him up a pretty good sized hill that was covered in snow. Steep enough where when I slipped I only had to go to one knee to catch myself.

I found a pair of used ones on Craigslist and I am waiting for a e-mail back so I can try them on and see if they fit.
For 50.00 for Fox "pro" boots can I go wrong?

I wonder if it's this boot...

Retail for this model is $499. If it's the same boot, I'd say you're getting a deal.  OMFG
