I'm thinking about doing the dual sport Quarry Run in Hancock for the first time this year on my DRZ 400. Are any of you guys going to ride it? Have any of you done it in years past?

Never been but I hear it is a great ride and the entire community supports the event. (be sure to stop and buy some lemonade, etc. from the local kids) The fire company has a breakfast and the ride itself is great. Wish I could make it but I was just up at camp for a week and I need to catch up on work.

We expect a full report with pics~!

I've done it the last couple of years. Well worth the trip. I'm to tied up this year or I'd be going.

I can't promise anything...I'm not even sure if I'm going to go. If I do I'll be sure to get some pictures!

Well, I made it down for the ride. I don't have any pictures because, of course, I forgot my camera. This was my first dirt bike "event" and I LOVED IT! I could definately get used to doing that on a weekly basis. We got in ~86 miles and even hit the hero sections. Lunch was at the gas station in Fish's Eddy, then free hot dogs/burgers and all the fixings at Art's Camp, and then free chicken bar-b-que at the fireman's pavillion.

I will not do another ride like that until I get myself a camelbak. I was as dehydrated as I have ever been (cramps and occasional nauseous feelings). I carried 2 16oz waters with me in the morning, then 2 20oz Gatorades in the afternoon and I was still having trouble!

I could not believe the KTMs there...I bet it was 50-50 KTMs to everything else. There were 5 or 6 of those two wheel drive bikes (Christini?). They must be fun to ride through the mud!

I was rider #607...I'd guess a total of 650ish people by the rider's meeting at 8:30.

Cool! I knew you would like it.
Camelbak is a definate must, I always ride with mine even out for a local fun ride with friends. You don't realize how much you need to drink until you have that hose hanging in your face to remind you. My Camelbak holds 100oz and I'll drain it in only 2-4 hours of riding.

Sweet, glad you went!  Were you able to keep up to the old guy?  How did the bike run?  Only one problem with your story, there is no gas station in Fish's Eddy, maybe you were in East Branch?

Yep, I lied...it was East Branch.

I think they were somewhat impressed with how I kept up. I was the only one who didn't dump my bike! Of course, while cleaning it last night at Gary's it fell over because the dirt under the kickstand turned to mush while I washed my truck. Thankfully there was no damage done! For 62, it is absolutely insane how he can ride. I would say we were somewhere near the "average pace." Some people passed us, and we passed some others.

The bike ran GREAT! I love that thing. In one particular instance the power of it got me out of a nasty, steep, rocky hill (1 of the 150 in the ride). I came over the top and said something like, "Now that's torque baby" and there were people right there taking a break who started laughing. I forget that you can hear other people while wearing bike helmets...unlike sleds.
