Can someone tell me, or give me a place to find out the rules in enduros and/or harescrambles? I always assumed the fastest guy won, but now I'm hearing different. I was told they are running the "old rules" at speedsville this weekend. What does that entail? How about bike/rider gear requirements?

Just browsing the list now so I haven't read them all but maybe it's in here.

Since that race is a WNYOA race I assume they are using their rules.
Here is their site.

http://www.wnyoa.net

And here is the rules page.

The rules may be hard to understand if your doing it the first time. Just some pointers. Get on a minute with someone that can keep time and is faster then you and don't pass him. Check points can't be closer then 3 miles apart so once you pass one go for it. Don't let the rules keep you from doing it. They are alot of fun. Just a working headlight, taillight and a plate is pretty much all you need. I won't be making it down this weekend but I'll be doing wayne county in sept.

Here is a link to the ECEA (East Coast Enduro Association) site. Under Site navigation there is a heading for 2007 rules.

ECEA

Before you get an ECEA License and number you take a test (multiple choice)... It's real easy, most of the wrong answers are so dumb that it makes you laugh.
Most clubs in the ECEA give the test prior to and on the day of the event so you don't need to go somwher specificly for the test.
Not sure how WNYOA works their system but it should be similar.

Do I need that "route sheet holder" for your handlebars and if so where would I get one? It sounds like you just ride like crazy, then chill and wait right before your checkpoint...does that make sense?

I think I might go just for a trail ride, even if I'm not even close to competitive.

You won't be early to a check in the woods. If you are then get in the aa class. You really don't need a chart holder for your first time out but it would help in seeing how things are run. You'll need a watch for key time and you'll have to buy the jart chart. WNYOA doesn't have a enduro test only ECEA does. You should take the test saturday afternoon and get a number from them.

Like highgear said you don't really need the route chart holder but you will learn faster/easier how to keep time and track of your miles/resets. You can just go ride and you may do well. Remember... "It's not a race, it's a timekeeping event"

As far as wher to get a route sheet holder... any Parts Ulimited dealer should be able to get you one in a few days. I boughtthe larger "Dual Sport" version by Moose Racing. You can always put a smaller sheet in the larger holder.

Well I attempted the Speedsville Enduro. I had a lot of fun and really liked the trails, but my older uncle had a hell of a time on the first hill which exhausted him for the rest of the ride...I ended up picking his bike up for him toward the end since he was so tired. We ended up only doing about half of it, since they put you back through the pits for a gas stop around 30 miles. I definately wanted to finish it, but we were on the last minute (because of what time we signed up) so I would have been the last guy on the course and riding by myself...not a good combo in my mind.

What do you guys know about the Wayne County Enduro in mid-september? I'm planning on doing it...

Oh yeah, my uncle gave me an old route sheet holder. I bought him a chicken dinner as a payment. Lame
