I helped them out last night for a few hours searching the fields and some wooded trails on the wheeler. They ended up calling it off last night until morning. What I don't understand is why they weren't using infared from the chopper last night. They can pick up heat off weed plants with it so certainly the heat from the engine would of been noticable, or his body temp as well. Had he not been killed on impact, he more than likely would of died outside last night if he were just severly injured. It was one cold sumbitchy out there last night. You can bet if it were a cop laying out there they wouldn't have called off the search.

He and his buddy flew over my house and waved to the kids 2 or 3 times a week in the warm months. Now every time his buddy flies over it will remind us of the crash. There was another guy a few years back from Richland that died on one of those also. Personally, if i'm on a vehicle propeled by a sled engine, I'm thinking 20 feet of verticle air time is plenty high enough for me. Back a few years ago the engine of choice for the ultra lights was a 503 Rotax. I'll tell yuh, I had three of them in three different sleds and I sure as heck wouldn't trust one flying me through the air. I don't know what they are running these days but I hope they are a bit more reliable! They were saying over at Capraras a lot of them are going to RX1 Yammy engines. Maybe the weight brought him down?

According to a neighbor of his, the plane he was flying was one that he purchased after it was crashed. He had been having problems with it and the thought is that he was taking it on a test flight after whatever repairs he had made. Hence, the relative closeness to the airport where he was found. Who knows for sure? It's sad in a way, but this guy died doing something he loved. I don't know about you, but I hope that I'm that lucky when my time comes.
